I would say that the article written by Vicki Woods some years ago has worried me. Her opinion about binge-drinking is totally negative and she doesn't give ideas in order to solve the problem. She asks sharping questions and gives no answers at all. I've perceived a lack of enthusiasm and harmful vision of British people, moods and culture. I'm positive about "botellón" in Spain. It has to be treated as a faded fashion. Mass media attention is not good so I would suggest newspapers and televisions do not spread this topic by talking about it. When I was young there wasn't “botellón” but instead it was the “ruta del bakalao” which was popularized mainly by reams of articles in press and daily televisions news. I think teenagers need a better education promoted at schools and by parents. Alcohol shouldn't be banned, we should teach the youth how to use it and the damage its consume provokes...
I think that Binge-drinking and Botellon are similars in the fact that both social phenomena involve young people and alcohol consumption. However, they seem extremely different in some other features: Bringe-drinking means over consumption of alcohol and health risks, while Botellon doesn't. In my opinion, the Spanish Botellon is a matter of conflict of interests between the youngers' Rights to gather and get fun together in a cheaper way, in front of the resident's Right to rest, and also the general obligation of respecting the public spaces. In this fight, it seems to me that those who can not vote are likely to loose.
